Rainbow fairytale / Tęczowa bajka

Moja córcia ma jedną kołderkę na drzemki, która jest używana w przedszkolu. Pod koniec 2010 roku zaczęłam szycie takiej kołderki do domu. Marysia rosła i rosła, a kołderka wciąż była nieskończona. Musiałam więc ją powiększać (dwa razy!). Nie mam pojęcia dlaczego tak długo zajęło mi uszycie tej kołderki... Ale w końcu udało się:

/ My daughter has one lap quilt, which is used in kinder garden. At the end of 2010 I started sewing new one to be used at home. Mary grew and I had to enlarge it. Then I once again had to add a border to make it larger. I don't know why it took me so long to finish it, but finally it's done:

Kotek na środku to kopia kotka z poduszki, którą uszyłam Marysi w ubiegłym roku. Dodałam też kawałek o kotku, co wlazł na płotek (jak zaczęłam szyć tę kołderkę, to Marysia ciągle śpiewała o kotku:). Pomyślałam też o umieszczeniu jej imienia na kołderce (górny lewy róg).

Coś jeszcze chciałam dodać w prawym górnym rogu, ale zapomniałam co to miało być:D chyba jakieś motylki albo słońce... (jak mi się przypomni, to dodam aplikacje)

Kołderka na środku przepikowana jest lotem trzmiela - nie ja pikowałam, a koleżanka (której bardzo dziękuję za pomoc!). Cała reszta to moje "dzieło". Lamówkę uszyłam z tkanin w kropki, nie udało mi się skompletować jednakowych, ale i tak prezentuje się nieźle.

Urodziny już jutro - mam nadzieję, że Marysia pokocha nową kołderkę! (mnie podoba się ona od samego początku...).

/ The kitty in the middle is the same one as kitty from Mary's pillow, which I made last year. I added a sentence, which is the start of Polish song for kids (about kitty on the fence). I though also about putting Mary's name on it (top left corner).

I wanted to add something in the right top corner, but I forgot what was it:D probably a sun or butterflies... (I'll have to think about it and add some appliques)

The middle part of quilt is quilted by my friend (I am still afraid of free motion quilting), rest is quilted by me. Binding is dotty - I didn't have one dotty print in all colors, but anyway it looks pretty nice.

Her 4th birthday are tomorrow and I hope she will love her new lap! (I love it from the beginning).

Slippers

As you could read in the previous post (HERE), I was invited to take part in Craft Book Month at Craft Buds.

When Lindsay e-mailed me, I knew I had to sew slippers from Natural Patchwork by Suzuko Koseki.

I've seen such slippers at Leila's blog (HERE and HERE) and from that moment I wanted to sew it.

But... There was always something else to sew... Once I was almost starting sewing slippers, but something extremely important interrupted me (well, I can't remember what was so urgent - probably nothing special since I can't remember:D).

And finally I did it! Here they are:

/ W poprzednim poście zapowiadałam mój udział w akcji blogowej (TUTAJ).

Gdy Lindsay zaprosiła mnie do udziału w tej akcji, od razu wiedzałam, że muszę uszyć kapcie z książki Suzuko Koseki pt. Natural Patchwork.
Widziałam wcześniej takie kapcie na blogu Leili (TUTAJ i TUTAJ) i od tamtej chwili chciałam je uszyć. Ale... Zawsze miałam coś innego do uszycia... Raz nawet już prawie rozpoczęłam szycie, gdy coś innego - niesamowicie ważnego - mi przeszkodziło (nie pamiętam co było takie pilne - pewnie to wcale nie było nic ważnego skoro nie pamiętam:D).

I nareszcie uszyłam je - oto one:

I used fabrics from Anna Maria Horner newest collection (Field Study). And yes: I used Dresden Plates to make the front (I'm not finished with with Dresdens yet!).

The book is written in English and it is divided into two parts. First one shows projects in use (fabulous photos - worth admiring!) and the second one contains instructions. Instructions are easy to follow plus there are images, which help understanding the instructions (some of the images are templates, which can be enlarged by photocopier).

I had to admit this: I love this book! (actually I love all Suzuko Koseki books:). Very often when I'm not in mood for sewing, I bring these books and just watch the photos - it helps me dreaming about quiet and peaceful days in the country house, where I want to live someday:)

There is something magical in these books... Something hard to describe, so if you don't have these books, you should definitely buy it!

/ Użyłam tkanin z najnowszej kolekcji Anny Marii Horner (Field Study). I tak: użyłam Dresden Plates (nie skończyłam jeszcze przygody z tym wzorem!).
Książka jest napisana w języku angielskim i została podzielona na dwie części. Pierwsza to zdjęcia projektów w scenach z codziennego życia (przepiękne zdjęcia - warto je zobaczyć!), a druga to instrukcje szycia. Instrukcje są napisane przystępnie, dodatkowo zamieszczone są rysunki, które ułatwiają zrozumienie poszczególnych faz szycia (niektóre rysunki to jednocześnie wzory do powiększenia na ksero).
Muszę przyznać: uwielbiam tę książkę! (tak jak wszystkie książki Suzuko Koseki:). Bardzo często, gdy nie mam ochoty na szycie, biorę te książki do ręki i po prostu podziwiam zdjęcia - pomaga mi to marzyć o cichych dniach w wiejskim domku, w którym kiedyś chciałabym zamieszkać:)
Jest po prostu coś magicznego w tych książkach. Trudno to opisać, więc jeśli jeszcze nie macie tych książek, to polecam ich zakup!

Pink your quilt!

Yesterday when my husband got back home, I thought that I should measure my mini quilt for EZ Dresden Challenge (you can read about my mini HERE). I just wanted to put exact measurement in the post (I haven't measure my quilt while sewing, I rarely measure my works). So I did... And I noticed that my 'mini' is too large for 'small/mini' category... What was worse, it was too small for other categories... 

So I rip of some binding (it was about 7 p.m.) and started sewing. I had only one evening to change something in my quilt, so I had to come up with ideas really fast and every decision about fabrics and shapes had to be very fast too. There were no time for mistakes. Usually I sew things slowly, celebrating the moments (especially in fabric selection). I don't make detailed plans for my works, but at least I know what will be the final effect and what I want to achieve. This time I hadn't got even rough plan.
So you should see me while sewing! I was like hurricane! No one wouldn't be able to stop me:) What is strange, I didn't make a lot of mess (usually I'm not a hurricane, but my sewing space looks like after hurricane:).

I finished my entry at midnight:

Originally my mini was named 'Pink your laundry!', after makeover the name was change too (for 'Pink your quilt!'). This is a result of additions I made. What will happen if you wash new fancy red dress with brand new low volume quilt? You'll get fancy pink quilt of course:). But don't try it at home;)

The red dress has skirt made of Dresden Plates, low volume quilt is also made of Dresdens. The rest are instructions how to pink the quilt (fussy cut from different fabrics):

Here are some other details:

I'm not completely satisfied with the result I achieved (some things I would make differently if I wasn't sewing without a plan), but I'm really glad that I have opportunity for such type of sewing. I never tried it before (I didn't have to:) and it's really challenging and fun! While sewing I came up with some ideas which I put in my notebook (for sure I'll try them later - this time with a plan:).

But anyway I submit my quilt to:

Pink your laundry!

I finished my mini quilt 'Pink your laundry!' for EZ Dresden Challenge. My adventure with this challenge started during summer break, when I sketched a block with Dresden Plate:

/ Skończyłam mój mini quilt "Pink your laundry!" na wyzwanie EZ Dresden. Moja przygoda z tym wyzwaniem zaczęła się podczas letnich wakacji, gdy narysowałam blok z Dresden Plate:

Washing machine pattern allows to use Dresden Plate as a centre of a block - like in traditional quilts, but the overall effect is clearly very modern and... fun! This mini is really specific - I like it, but I'm not sure how about you...

During sewing I made small changes in this project and decided to make a mini quilt with a sentence (inspiration for the sentence I found on Pinterest - HERE):

/ Wzór pralki pozwala użyć Dresden Plate w centrum bloku - tak jak w tradycyjnych narzutach, ale ogólny efekt jest wyraźnie nowoczesny i... zabawny! Zdaję sobie sprawę, że mini quilt jest specyficzny - mnie się podoba, ale nie mam pewności, czy Wam się spodoba...
Podczas szycia zmodyfikowałam blok i zdecydowałam by uszyć mini quilt z sentencją, którą znalazłam na Pinterest (TUTAJ):

There are a few texts from fabrics on the mini (mainly from Suzuko Koseki fabrics), I put also some fussy cut sentence about socks on the binding:

I sketched also three blocks with washing instruction icons, I sewed only 2 of them, but finally they didn't make a cut to my mini:

My second project (really big quilt) is not finished yet. I didn't make the whole top, but I love this project so much that for sure I'll try to finish it soon! It is totally different than 'Pink your laundry' - romantic, with bunch of flowers and really girly.

/ Mój drugi projekt (ogromna narzuta) nie jest jeszcze skończony. Bardzo mi się podoba, więc na pewno postaram się go skończyć! Jest inny niż "Pink your laundry" - romantyczy, kwiatowy i niezwykle dziewczęcy.
